Head of the Centre’s Lipids and Prostate Cancer Research Program (University of Adelaide and South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute), Professor Lisa Butler, and colleagues, review the current understanding of the essential and complex role of fatty acid metabolism in cancer development and disease behaviour.
The diversity and breadth of cancer cell fatty acid metabolism.
Fatty acids influencing membrane biosynthesis, energy storage and production, and generation of signaling factors that drive the cancer process in cells. Lipid metabolism is a potential avenue for developing a new class of drug therapies for prostate cancer and the FCMHW is working on this with funding from Movember, Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, Cancer Australia and Cancer Council of SA, and The University of Adelaide/Masonic Charities.
