This study is being undertaken by researchers from the University of South Australia (UniSA) in Adelaide who are developing a test that may be used for the diagnosis of different cancers. For this study, plasma will be isolated from whole blood to study the mechanisms behind cancer development and disease progression.
Healthy males aged 18-70 years who are non-smokers with no known cancer or blood diseases are being asked to donate 10ml blood. Men will be required to attend the UniSA Clinical Trial Facility (North Terrace, Adelaide) and the procedure will take approximately 10 minutes. The blood will be taken by venipuncture (from the arm) by an experienced phlebotomist. Other than participant contact details, no other data is collected. A summary of the study findings will be provided to participants on request, but personal results will not be shared with the participant as the tests are experimental only. Blood samples will not be kept after the researchers have completed the testing, and no follow-up is required.
Men will receive a payment of $20 for participation.
The UniSA Human Research Ethics Committee approval number is 201907.
